Monopoly debut

Reminiscent of Uncle Bill's famous Monopoly games, Malcolm's first game spanned a few days and rotated through a few different opponents. His buy anything you land on and spend all your cash on houses and hotels strategy paid off when I couldn't pay the $1400 rent on Pennsylvania avenue.

  • I personally love Monopoly Jr. There is a bit less strategy involved, but the game wraps up in a tidy 30 minutes. Plus, the boys love the amusement park theme, with "ticket booths."

  • PS We got out Scrabble on Friday and it was interesting to see how Simon had a much more intuitive sense of the game. He is far ahead of where Stephen was in reading at the same age. Stephen seemed to struggle with translating his tiles while fitting them onto the board, and seemed puzzled that you couldn't spell words going down to up and right to left.

  • Yes, Billy was about Malcolm's age when he started playing Monopoly. Besides the family members who passed through the kitchen, he also played with a classmate who enjoyed the game. When all else failed he set up his stuffed animals to play. It's a great game..Good for you Malcolm!
